Welcome to Island Time on Galveston Island!
June is the first month of the summer season in Galveston. School is out, the weather is great, and Galveston has a host of events to get your summer started off right. Here is a sample of some of the special events we have in store for you:
· June 1 – AIA Sandcastle Competition – The American Institute of Architects Houston is a community of architects coming together to accomplish things that no single architect can do alone. This year over 60 teams will head to East Beach in Galveston for one of the world’s largest sandcastle competitions in hopes of winning the prestigious Golden Bucket Award.
· June 15 – Great Texas Catamaran Race – The Great Texas Catamaran Race is 300 miles of extreme sailing along the Texas Gulf Coast. Starting in South Padre Island and finishing in Galveston over the Father’s Day weekend.
· June 15 – Juneteenth Jubilee- Originated in Galveston, Texas in 1865, the June 19th celebration is the African American Emancipation Day.
· June 15 – Texas Beach Ultimate Fest Frisbee Tournament – Join us at Galveston Island’s RA Apffel Park (East Beach). The TBUF- Galveston is the longest running beach tournament in the WORLD. All skill levels welcome, from rookies to veterans. Come enjoy the sun, the sand, the surf, and Frisbee Fun!
· June 15 – Gulf Coast Volleyball Tournament – The Gulf Coast Volleyball Association will be hosting the Galveston Qualifier for the Bud Light Texas Volleyball Championship at Stewart Beach, Galveston Island’s premier family beach park. Click here to register
· June 18 – World’s Largest Swimming Lesson This FREE annual event, held at the Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark, is open to children and adults of all ages. Participate in breaking the 2012 Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson! Click here to register

Galveston is the hottest vacation destination in Texas. We had our best tourism season in history last summer and expect an even bigger turnout this year. Come and play in Galveston this summer!
